Jayveon Tucker is the proud grandson of Denise Tucker and the late Bobby Tucker. Jayveon is a sophomore at Patrick Henry High School, class of 2023. He is a member of the Patrick Henry Player Theater Department and the marching band.
"Jayveon was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. The first two years of Jayveon's life he was raised by his single mother until his grandparents stepped in and took him and his two sisters in. By far that is what Jayveon considers his biggest obstacle in his childhood, but that was not his only obstacle. Jayveon had a speech problem but he never used that as an excuse to hold him back from doing what he wanted to do.
As a child, Jayveon's late grandfather used to always carry him to the church to clean it. At first, Jayveon never understood why, out of all four of the grandchildren, he always made him go. Now he realizes it was because he knew Jayveon was determined and a hard worker, and he wanted to strengthen those traits in him.
Over the summer of 2020, Jayveon became an activist speaking out against racial injustice and becoming an activist for youth. He is a member of Roanoke NAACP Youth Council, he is also a member of the Youth Service Board of Roanoke. As a teenager Jayveon speaks with local and state representatives to talk about issues in the city of Roanoke.
Usually for people, obstacles are what shut doors, but for Jayveon, his obstacles quickly turned into accomplishments. After high school, Jayveon plans on going to school to study law and he would like to run for elected office in the near future."
